Best Buy deal: $300 for desktop with 18.5" LCD monitor!

Laptop this, laptop that, but you still need a desktop for a number of reasons, unless of course you don't :-) Obviously the importance of desktops has decreased significantly the last few years, but don't count them out just yet!

Best Buy has desktop packages starting at $300, good for the whole week, until Saturday May 30, 2009.

There are 11 models shown at the link above, let's take a look at some of the most interesting ones price-wise!

We start at $300, where we find the eMachines ET1161-05, paired with a 18.5" widescreen LCD display. Not bad at all eh? Can you get a laptop for that and with a big screen like that? Obviously NOT! However, this is not intended for heavy-duty processing, as it has the AMD Athlon LE-1620 single-core processor, but it does have a reasonable 2gb of memory, 160gb hard disk, NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE graphics, card reader, and Vista Basic SP1. You can't really complain for all these, can you? :-)

And remember, there are absolutely no rebates to submit whatsoever at Best Buy!

If you want a more upscale model, you can pay $500 and get the dual-core HP a6814y Desktop which uses the Pentium E5200 dual-core processor and also comes with a slightly larger 19-inch LCD Monitor. And all the other features are better as well, such as six (6) gigabytes of RAM (main memory), 640gb hard disk spinning at 7200rpm, Intel GMA 3100 w/128MB dedicated, DVD burner, and of course 64-bit Vista since that's the only Windows-way to take advantage of the extra memory above 4gigs. Yes, one of those "we'll never need more than that" types of deals. Aye, aye, aye!

The same bundle as above, but with the addition of the HP D1530 deskjet printer only goes for $30 more. This is good assuming you need the printer, otherwise the printer will end up eating up space!

From there, we have more models, which we'll let you explore. They go as high as $2300, which as you can expect, they are the overhyped and overrated (oh my, what sacrilege) iMacs.

1 TB Seagate FreeAgent hard disk for $110

This is a weekend special only, so don't sleep on it! J&R World is offering the Seagate 1TB FreeAgent Desk USB External Hard Drive for $110 plus shipping and handling. It comes out to about 11 cents per gigabyte. Not a bad price for an external drive from a well-known retailer.

This is a 7200rpm disk, with a USB 2.0 interface, 3.5" format, and it weighs about two pounds.

One Terabyte DriveStation for $90

All data grows so fast these days, movies, videos, pictures with all these high-megapixel cameras, and things like that. The good news is that storage prices are dropping so you can catch up with the growing volume of data that finds itself in your lap!

With that in mind, we have the 1TB DriveStation external hard drive (USB, Firewire 400) offered for $90 as the spotlight deal of today at PC Connection. They also have a promotion for free shipping on this item. This price factors in a $10 mail-in rebate, so if you don't want to deal with the hassle of a rebate, the price you pay at checkout is $100.

This is made by Buffalo Technologies, and it is manufacturer model number HD-CE1.0TIU2.

Please also note that this will be replaced with a different deal each day, so if you are reading this further in the future, you will see something different.

Cool your laptop for $10 (this week at Staples)

If you have one or more laptops, and you don't already have a laptop cooler, well, that may be a crime against Laptops! Seriously :-)

But you can atone and repend by getting one, and Staples is making this easier this week (starting on Sunday May 3rd) because they are offering a Targus cooler (product #759787) for just $10. This is the what-you-pay price, there are no rebates. Because of the nice price, it's a good idea to check early, because they may sell out. I know I'm gonna stock up!
