Five Hot Laptops at Amazon right now

We take a quick look at Amazon to see what the scores and scores of Amazon shoppers are buying in their laptop and notebook computer department. Amazon has a total of 2,557 laptops listed on their site. Oh my! I'd be happy with 1% of those :-)

The top selling Apple notebook over there is the Apple MacBook Pro MA895LL/A which sports a 15.4" widescreen display, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor running at 2.2 gigahert, a 2 GB memory, a 120 GB hard disk drive, and a SuperDrive that records on blank cds and dvds. The price is "apple-icious" - starting at $1670, depending on which retailer you buy it from. As you may be familiar with, Amazon is a marketplace, and apart from Amazon itself, other famous and not-so-famous retailers sell over there. Seventy-six customer reviews are posted on this one.

The top tiny PC at Amazon is the galaxy black Asus Eee 4G for $400 via the good people of J&R World. This has a 7" display as it is a Micro Laptop. Its Intel Celeron processor is running at 900MHz Processor, and it has 512 MB memory and a 4 GB Hard Drive. This is not exactly the ideal laptop to use to run all your Photoshop-intensive tasks :) It has a webcam however, and the lovely Penguin (Linux) Preloaded).

The top non-Apple traditional laptop comes from Toshiba, it is the Satellite A215-S5802, selling at exactly $600. You get an AMD Athlon TK-57 dual core processor spinning at 1.9 gigahertz, 1gb memory (4gb max), 120gb hard disk drive, ATI Radeon XPress 1200 graphics, dvd burner, b/g Realtek wireless, Firewire and Express Card slot, along with a built-in memory card reader. And Vista Home premium. It comes in a lovely onyx blue color. Oh yes, and a 15.4" widescreen display.

Next up, we have the HP Pavilion DV6775US which goes for $930 after a $50 mail-in rebate. Even though it has a 15.4" widescreen display, you get three gigabytes of memory, a 250gb hard disk drive, an Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 processor and a lot more. Eleven customer reviews are posted on it.

Next up we have the Compaq-Presario-F755US powered by an AMD Turion 64 X2 dual core TL-58 processor, 2gb of memory (max 3gb), 160gb hard drive, dual layer dvd burner, 54g WiFi (a/b/g), and Vista Premium. The display is a 15.4" widescreen and it is fed by the Nvidia GeForce 7000M. The price is $600 after a $30 mail-in rebate.

And before we go, there's a special on Belkin bags at Amazon. Through March 18, 2008, purchase a laptop and a Jet/Cabernet or Chocolate/Tourmaline Belkin 17-inch messenger bag offered by Amazon.com and get $25 off the bag via mail-in rebate. Details here.
