Four notebooks in the Fry's newspaper ad on Sunday

Fry's electronics has a quarter of laptops advertised in the Sunday paper. Fry's is fair and balanced today, as two of them are Apple and two of them are Wintel. Oops, Wintel is an old-school term, I should say PC/Windows laptops instead.

The Apples advertised are the MacBook at 2.1gh with a Core 2 Duo, 1gb ddr2 memory, 13.3" wide display, 120gb hard disk drive and such. Price is $1100. This is a new arrival at Fry's - according to their ad.

Next up is the more advanced and obviously expensive MacBoko Pro, with the new low price of $1600, no rebates, and it sports a 2.2gb Core 2 Duo, 15.4" widescreen display, 2gb ddr2 memory, and such. Supplies are limited however, and there are no substitutions or rainchecks. You have to get fries or nothing ;-)

And now to the real computers :) I know, it hurts Apple fans, but we are now going to talk about the real computers, the PCs :-)

First up at $950, after two mail-in rebates of $50 and $100 respectively, one can find the Fujitsu A3210-771, which includes an AMD Turion 64 X2 dual core TL-60, 3gb DDR2 memory (yes, three gigs), 200gb hard disk drive, double layer dvd burner, a/b/g wireless, 15.4" widescreen and such. Vista Premium too.

Meanwhile the Sony actually costs less. What? Yes, not a typo. We double-checked! It's the Sony Vaio FZ320E/B going for $900, without rebates of course. Sony doesn't want its prestigious brand "dragged in the mudd" by rebates and coupons and such ;-) This laptop is powered by an Intel Centrino duo blah blah blah T5450. Seriously, is that the best way they could come up to name these processors? Come on Intel! Optimize it! It also have a 2gb memory, 200gb hard disk drive, dual layer dvd burner, 15.4" widescreen, a/b/g but also next-gen N wireless, Vista Premium, and built-in webcam. Not bad of a price for a Sony!
