Laptop specials at Best Buy this week (3/9 to 3/15/08)

We jump right in with the back-cover feature, the Best Buy exclusive HP Pavilion dv6736nr. The price is $700, no rainchecks, one per household. So what's the big deal? Well, it has an AMD Turion 64 X2 DC processor, 2gb DDR2 memory, 250gb hard disk drive, dual layer dvd burner with lightscribe, 15.4" HD brightview wide display, built-in webcam, Vista Premium, and the like. No rebates, just like everything else at Best Buy!

Continuing with the exclusive theme, the next three laptops are claimed to be Best Buy exclusive models according to the Best Buy circular ad found in the Sunday paper. We can't check every single retailer out there, so we'll take them at their ad-word :)

The lowerst price laptop of the lot is the Compaq Presario C751NR, which sounds awfully similar to the Presario F750us. Doesn't it? But it has an Intel Pentium dual core processor instead. Other features include 1gb ddr2 memory, 120gb hard disk drive, dual layer dvd burner, 15.4" widescreen, and Vista Premium. One per household please.

For $100 more, at $550, we find the Gateway MT6728. This BB exclusive has an Intel Pentium dual core processor, 2gb ddr2 memory, 160gb hard disk, dual layer dvd burner with labelflash, 15.4" ultrabright widescreen, and Vista Premium. This is a clearance item, one per household, no rainchecks. How about snowchecks? :)

For an extra $100, at $650, you can get the Toshiba Satellite P205d-S7802. The highlight of this lappie is the 17" TruBrite widescreen display. But it's not just a screen, you also get an AMD Turion 64 X2 DC processor, 2gb memory, 160gb hard disk, dual layer dvd burner, ATI Radeon X1200 graphics, and Vista Premium. Toshiba fans and big screen fans where are you?

Next up we have two Dell models, first up the Inspiron 1420 I1420B8104, for $800, and with an Intel Centrino Duo Core 2 Duo processor (oh my is that a railroad or what?). IT also has 2gb memory, 250gb disk, dual layer dvd burner, built-in webcam, and Vista Premium. And a 14.1" widescreen display. Available in eight fashionably delicious colors. Are they laptops or bijou? We blog, you decide!

The second Dell is the XPS X1530-B-8107, with a 15.4" widescreen, Centrino Core 2 Do, 2gb memory, 160gb disk, slot-loading dual layer dvd burner, NextGen Wireless-N, nVidia GeForce 8400M graphics card, built-in fingerprint reader, built-in webcam, and Vista Premium. Oh the price you ask? $900!

You do have the choice to upgrade to a Inspiron XPS M1530 (PRODUCT) RED with Vista Ultimate for the total price of $1150. Partial proceeds from the sale of (PRODUCT) RED Dell laptops go towards helping deal with AIDS in Africa, so you not only get a lovely red laptop, but you also contribute to a good cause, and at the same time, by using your new red laptop in public, you are promoting the cause!

Last but certainly not least is the Sony Vaio VGN-NSZ-750N/C at $1700. Sony prices folks, what do you expect. This is powered by an Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo T8100 processor, 2gb ddr2, 250gb disk, nVidia GeForce 8400M, Next-Gen Wireless-N, Bluetooth, fingerprint reader, built-in webcam, Vista Business and 13.3" Razor-Thin XBrite widescreen. As you can see with laptops, you start at some point to pay a lot more for less :)

If you love Targus bags, run to Best Buy! They have a sale of 30% off. Markdowns are off the regular prices, and outlet center items, along with clearance, demo, open box and such are excluded from this promotion.

A number of stand-alone widescreen displays are on sale, starting at $210 for 19" LG L196WTQ-BF or a 22" Widescreen Westinghouse LCM-22W3 clearance display, or $330 for a 24" Westinghouse L2410NM display. The latter has a 1920x1200 resolution, and HDMI input, and 8ms response time, and 1000:1 contrast ratio. Clearance item.
