New laptops: Acer Aspire 8920G and 6920 Blue Gemstone (gadget blog round-up)

Acer has generated a lot of buzz in the notebook world in the last week. First it was all the waiting and the hype for their announcement. Then came the live coverage at NYC.

So what was this all about? The new Gemstone Blue notebooks! Details at Electronista, where we learn that the new laptops, the 16" display Aspire 6920 and 18.4" display Aspire 8920G, are 1080p and hope to serve as a mini-HDTV replacement as well. Lots of pictures at Electronista.

Pictures from the event and pictures of the spec-sheet at Gizmodo. More pictures and angles of view at Engadget. And they have a hands on as well. We have a hands-off :-( Acer, please send us a demo unit! :)

More technical details, and fewer giant pictures, at CNet's Crave blog, where we learn the price range is somewhere around $900 to $1700. Crave also points out that Acer marketing is serious about things as they take giant high-profile ads in the New York Times. And we know what the New York Post was busy filling up its pages with ;-)

SlashGear reminds us that Acer has built up quite a portfolio of computer companies, including Gateway, E-Machines, and Packard Bell too. Acer, do you want to buy this blog? Our asking price is an extra large 3-topping pizza and a 2-liter brand name soda :)

And if you want to see more on these two new laptops directly from the source, here is Acer's Gemstone Blue page.

Well, the more options we have in the market, the better. How will they perform in the market? Time will tell! We can't tell you more, unless Acer sends us a hands-on preview unit :)
