Notebook deals at Office Depot (March 9 to 15, 2008)

It's not Sunday yet, but Office Depot has already posted their in-store circular ad for the week of March 8-15, 2008 on their website. So let's take a sneek peak and see what's inside. Keep in mind that the new prices will activate at some point on Sunday. And don't forget to spring your clocks and watches forward tonight!

The most talked about laptop of this week circular will undoubtedly be the Toshiba Satellite A205-S5814, an Office Depot exclusive model. It has the usual feeding frenzy qualifier, limited supplies, no rainchecks, minimum five per store. So think of it as laptop lottery, instead of laptop shopping.

The price of $550 after $135 mail-in rebates is nice. The A205-S5814 is powered by the Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core Processor T2330, and it has 2GB DDR2 memory, 15.4" widescreen display, 160GB hard disk drive, and dual layer dvd burner with labelflesh. Also, you get the "lovely" Windows Vista™ Home Premium, and integrated 802.11b/g wireless LAN.

But the best price of the circular is the Compaq Presario F750us, offered at $450 after two mail-in rebates totaling $165. Be sure to follow-through with the instructions if you are planning to use the rebates. And now on to the computer! It is powered by the AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core TK-57 processor, has a 15.4" BrightView wide display, 1GB DDR2 memory, 120GB hard drive, and dual layer dvd burner. On top of that, Windows Vista™ Home Premium, and built-in 802.11b/g wireless LAN.

Next up, we have a Toshi at $630 after mail-in rebates of $170. More specifically, it is the Toshiba Satellite A215-S6804. This is powered by the AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile TL-60 processor,15.4" TruBrite wide display, 2GB DDR2 memory, 250GB hard drive, dual layer dvd burner with labelflash, along with built-in webcam, b/g wireless and Vista Home Premium. This is an Office Depot exclusive model claims the ad. We cannot check every single store in the world to verify it :)

And while we are on the topic of Toshibas, the PA3535U-1BRS 9-cell rechargeable Lithium Ion battery is offered at $100, and good news, no rebates to send! Please check the Toshiba website and customer support to see which models are compatible with this battery. For some more details on this battery, check the Amazon product details page. And if you prefer information straight from the horse's mouth, here is the Toshiba page of the battery. Go Toshi Go!

Continuing with the Toshiba theme, the Satellite A205-S6808 is offered at $700 after $135 in mail-in rebates. It bares its soul via its 15.4" widescreen display. The pwoer inside is provided by the Intel Centrino Duo Core 2 Duo T5450 processor. It also has 2gb memory, 200gb hard disk drive, dvd burner but also plays HD-DVD discs, which lost the format wars. As we mentioned earlier, this may be a possibility for laptop bargains. You also get the usual assortment of features such as built-in webcam, Vista Premium and a/b/g wireless.

Next up in terms of price, the Toshiba Satellite U305-S2804 is offered at $750. As the model name suggests, this is a more high-end and more lightweight model as it clocks in at 4.6 pounds and has a nice 13.3" TruBrite wide display. The brains belong to an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5450. The elephant role is played by a 2GB DDR2 memory and a 160GB hard drive. It's window to the outside world is a dual layer dvd burner, and a built-in webcam, along with a/b/g wireless. And the main reason of potential crashes will probably be the Windows Vista™ Home Premium. Just kidding Vista fans :) Actually Vista is not that bad in our opinion :)

And now jumping to the other end of the display spectrum, a 17" widescreen laptop from Toshiba, the Toshiba Satellite P205-S8810. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 processor, 2GB DDR2 memory, 250GB hard disk drive, and an optical drive that is a dvd burner but can also play HD DVDs highdef discs. See our comment above on the high-def discs, the format wars, adn the possibility for bargains. And this is a good candidate, if you like what it has, and don't miss what it doesn't have. Unlike a dedicated HD-DVD player, the hd-dvd playback is only a small part of a laptops functionality. You can even ignore it if you like :)

And the most expensive laptop of this week's ad goes to *drum roll* Sony! Now that's a shocker :) You pay a lot more for less in size and weight, which is how the price curve goes in laptops these days. So is it for you? Well, the choice is yours :) Here are the main specs of the Sony Vaio TZ240: 11.1" X-BRITE™ hi-color widescreen display, 2.7 pounds, under 1" thick (wow!), Intel® Core™ 2 Duo U7500 processor, 2GB DDR2 memory, 100GB hard drive, dual layer dvd burner, fingerprint reader, NextGen wireless with Bluetooth (a/b/g/n), and Vista™ Business Edition. Move over Lenovo X300 and MacBook Air? We blog, you decide!
