Sunday paper: Three laptops by Fry's Electronics

The Sunday paper ad by Fry's Electronics offers a trio of notebook computers at tempting (?) prices for Fry's shoppers. Let's take a look at them, in ascending price order (how organized!).

And what a teaser-doorbuster they had! A $400 Toshiba laptop, but with the usual qualifications (1 per customer, no rainchecks, 20 minimum per store). And no rebates whatsoever! The laptop in question? The Toshiba A205-S5805. As you can see there is a reason it is offered so low, it has a *gasp* Celeron Mobile 540 at 1.86ghz processor, not a dual-core processor. Still interested? It has a 15.4" widescreen display, 1GB memory,80GB hard disk, dvd burner, b/g wireless, and Vista Home Basic. Tempting???

Next up, at $650 after a $50 mail-in rebate we find the HP Pavilion dv2710us, which features asn AMD Turion 64 X2 DC TL-60 processor, 2gb ddr2 memory, 160gb hard disk drive, double layer dvd burner with lightscribe, 15.4" widescreen, and such. Limit one per customer however. Reasonable price for what it is, but not something to camp outside Fry's for ;-)

The trio is completed by the Toshiba A215-S6814 offered at just $750. This Toshi is powered by the AMD Turion TL-64 gold processor (no bling-bling however), 2Gb memory, 250GB hard disk drive, dvd burner, 15.4" widescreen, 802.11 b/g wireless, and Vista Home Premium. Also built-in webcam, and built-in LCD bezel. Limit one per customer. Toshi fans where are you? :)
