Ten hot laptops at Best Buy this week

As always Best Buy's Sunday paper weekly ad is jam-packed with laptops of interest. A number of these models are Best Buy exclusives, making it harder to hardball and price-match with other retailers. Another thing that works in favor of Best Buy is that there are no rebates, as a number of consumers are allergic or cringe at the thought of dealing with bureaucratic and inefficient rebate processors.

Small is Big
We start with a little something, the tiny ASUS EeePC makes its Best Buy debut at $400. The model in question features a Celeron processor, XP Home, 512mb DDR2 memory, and 4gb of flash storage. The weight is just two pounds, and also includes wireless, and a built-in webcam even. And it has a tiny little 7" widescreen display. Just don't compare it with your 60" HDTV :)

Under $750
As always we start with the lowest prices first, and here we find the Compaq F756nr on clearance at $500. This includes an AMD Turion 64 X2 DC processor, 2gb memory, 160gb hard disk, dvd burner, 15.4" widescreen, nVidia GeForce 7000M graphics, Vista Premium, and such. For an all-around computer, you can't complain about the price!

If you want a newer computer that comes pre-bundled with Vista SP1, you can pay an extra $50 and get the Toshiba A215-S5837. This has pretty similar main specs as the Presario above, but the graphics module is from ATI, the Radeon X1200. Limit one per household. This is a new Best Buy exclusive model.

Moving along at $600 we find the HP dv6815nr, with an AMD Turion 64 X2 dual core processor, 3gb memory, 160gb disk, dvd burner, 15.4" widescreen, nVidia GeForce 7150M, and of course the new Vista SP1, which indicates this is a new model.

Next up at $700, we find the Dell Inspiron I1525-102B with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 3gb memory, 250gb disk, dvd burner, 15.4" widescreen, built-in webcam, and such. With these models, you do have the option of various fashionable colors and patterns, so your laptop gets some personality and doesn't look like just another laptop from the office.

And now something a little bit more mobile, thanks to its 14.1" widescreen display. We are talking of course about the HP dv2819nr, which goes for $730, exclusively at Best Buy. The processor is from AMD (Turion 64 X2 DC), with 3gb memory, 250gb disk, dvd burner with lightscribe, nVidia Go 7150M, built-in webcam, and Vista SP1.

Over $750
As the prices go higher, the features increase as well. At $800 we find two models, first up the new Sony Vaio VGN-CR407E/P, in lovely pink just in time for Mother's Day. It has a Pentium dual core processor, 2gb memory, 160gb disk, dvd burner, 14.1" Xbrite ECO widescreen, built-in webcam, Intel Wireless-N PRO, Vista SP1, and much more. Did we mention it is pink?

Also at $800, a laptop for those who love bigger laptops and bigger screens. This HP dv9815nr has a 17" widescreen display. Nice? This exclusive is powered by the AMD Turion 64 X2 DC processor, 3gb memory, 250gb disk, dvd burner, NVidia 7150M, built-in webcam, and Vista SP1. Limit one per household, so keep those wigs, fur coats and moustaches handy if you want more ;-)

More power and more features at $850, where we meet with the Toshiba A305-S6837, with an Intel Centrino duo processor, 4gb memory, 320gb disk, dvd burner with labelflash, next-gen wireless N from Intel, built-in webcam, 15.4" TruBrite widescreen, Vista SP1, and much more. Take that 1gb RAM laptops!

Last but certainly not least at $1100 we find the Sony VGN-CR420E/W, powered by the Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo T8100, with 3gb memory, 250gb hard disk, dvd burner, 14.1" Xbrite ECO widescreen, Vista SP1, and much more. Of main interest to Sony Vaio fans for sure.
