Hot clearance laptop deals at Best Buy starting with $400 Toshiba notebook!

Run to Best Buy laptop fans! There are some nice deals at each price point, starting at $400. Of course do note that the better the deal, the lower are the chances of it being available and in-stock. But don't let that dissuade you! You can always check online or call ahead. And remember, there are no rebates at Best Buy, so what you see is what you pay!

The $400 Toshiba A205-S5825 notebook deal!
Yum! Toshiba is a solid brand, so it is exciting that you can get the Toshiba A205-S5825 for just $400! On clearance of course and limit one per household and no rainchecks. But this is no laptop patsy! It has an Intel Pentium dual core processor, 1gb ddr2 memory, 15.4" TruBrite widesceen, 120gb hard disk, dvd burner of dual layer fame, and Vista Premium. What else can you ask at $400 other than it will be in-stock? :-)

We didn't find a review of this very model but there is a review of the Satellite A205 family at, one of the best sites out there reviewing laptops! And be sure to check their forums for more discussions on this and other laptops out there. But don't blame me if you spend the next 10 hours reading through all the reviews and posts there :)

The $500 Compaq Presario F767nr
If you can't find the Toshi in-store, fear not, there is a $500 Presario available as well. As the model name suggests, it uses an AMD processor. The F-series is the AMD line and the C-series is the Intel line. So for $500 you get an AMD Turion 64 X2 DC processor, 2gb of ddr2 memory, 250gb hard disk, dvd burner, 15.4" HD Brightview display, and Vista Premium. As you can tell from the OS version, neither one is a brand new computer, which perhaps explains the price and clearance status. But with new models coming every few months, it's really not a big deal, unless you must have yesterday's announcement tomorrow :) Limit one per household.

Not a full-fledged review, but we did find a product brief at CNet, if you can find it among the sea of distractions :)

Two $600 laptops from Dell and Toshiba
Found on the back page of the Sunday paper circular, the Toshiba A305D-S6848 is a solid laptop for a variety of tasks, with its 3gb DDR2 memory and 200gb hard disk drive. It also has a 15.4" widescreen and a dvd burner, along with an AMD Turion 64 X2 DC processor and Vista Premium. Not a bad deal for sure!

The other $600 laptop is the Dell Inspiron I1526-101B, with similar specs, and on clearance, and one per household and no rainchecks. The specs are aMD Turion 64 x2 DC processor, 3gb ddr2 memory, 160gb hard disk, 15.4" widescreen TrueLife, built-in webcam, dvd burner and Vista Premium.

Laptops at $700 or more
If you want a more mobile laptop, you can take a look at the HP Pavilion dv2815nr going for $700, which is not a bad price for a loaded 14.1" widescreen laptop. This lovely is powered by the AMD Turion 64 X2 DC processor, 3gb of ddr2 memory, 250gb hard disk, dvd burner with lightscribe, nVidia GeForce Go7150M graphics system, built-in webcam, Vista Premium and a lot more!

If you prefer a more edgy laptop design, for $750, you can get the HP dv2845se, another Best Buy exclusive, with similar specs but 4gb of DDR2 memory. Also a 14.1" widescreen display. Take a look!

And if you want a laptop replacement or multimedia powerhouse laptop, at $900, you can get the HP dv6875se, with an Intel Centrino 2 processor, 3gb memory, 320gb disk, dvd burner, 15.4" widescreen fueled by the nVidia GeFORCE 8400M GS graphics system, 12-cell battery for extended life, built-in webcam, and Vista Premium.

As you can see most of the laptops featured in this ad are using Vista Premium, which seems to suggest that Best Buy is clearing house to make room for newer models. The neverending cycle of new models at work. But some of the above are great deals in terms of price, so don't miss out!

If you love Macs, the MacBook MB402LL-A is going for $1100 and this includes a 13.3" widescreen, 1gb memory, 120gb disk, not sure if it has dvd burner, 2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and whatever other features Macs have ;-)

Last but not least, the sleek looking, if not loud and obnoxious, Gateway P6860FX going for $1100. This Gateway monster is targeting gamers, with its 17" ultrabright widescreen display fueled by the Nvidia 8800M GTS graphics with DirectX 10. Oh what a bad idea to have version "10" of something named "X". It has built-in wireless-N, 4gb ddr2 memory, 320gb disk, Vista SP1, and an Intel Centrino Core2 Duo processor. Wanna learn more about this laptop? Check the page for it!

Laptop and Desktop accessories
You can never have too many accessories, which explains why it's such a huge industry out there! We start with the sleek Targus TCG200 messenger bag for just $30, and the Logitech gaming mouse with adjustable weights for $50. Then we graduate to the Western Digital WDH1U7500N external hard disk drive for just $140. Not bad!

For bigger laptops, the 17" Targus CPT401DUS notebook case might be of interest. This is a deluxe blacktop at $50 even. And the Logitech V450 laser cordless mouse for notebooks goes for $30. It has soft grips and tilt wheel for side to side scrolling. Add that to your laptop bag!

Memory is another thing you can never have too many with today's technology. Tht's why PNY is offering their 2gb PC5300 DDR2 laptop memory kit for $60.

And if the 3.5" external hard disks seem too clunky to carry around with you, the industry agrees with you, that's why the 2.5" external drives are so popular, and you now have more options under $100, such as the 160gb Western Digital WDMEY1600TN for just $80, available in trendy black or sun-yellow.

LCD widescreen displays are another item of interest, and they go as low as $140 for a Hanspree model at 1440x900, model HF-199HPB. Yes, just $140 for a 19" widescreen. Why am I writing this? I should stop and run to get it ;-) The 22" Hanspree HF-229HPB goes for just $200. Oh my!

If you feel more comfortable with the big name brands, Samsung has a 19" widescreen LCD for $200 (932BW+) and a 22" version (2232BW+) for $300.

More on the 19" widescreens, Gateway has the FPD1976W model on clearance for just $160, no rainchecks. The resolution is 1440x900, with 5ms response time, and 1000:1 CR, and VGA and DVI-D with HDCP crapola inputs. This is a clearance item!

And Velocity Micro (who?) has the model W220 LCD on sale for $240, with a 1680x1050 resolution, dual DVI and HDMI inputys, 1440:1 CR, 2ms ultrafast response time, and things like that as Arnold would say.

Nice Lenovo rebates at J&R World

The prices after rebate range from $700 to $2900. Obviously Lenovo laptops are not entry-level, so don't expect to compare them in price to Acer or the other "affordables". They do after all carry the tradition of "Big Blue" - IBM for those born after 1990 :)

Also available are a couple of Lenovo Ideapad U110R models, which are using 11" widescreen displays and as you can expect, these tiny laptops cost a whole lot more ($1900 after a $100 mail-in rebate).

If on the other hand you find all the small screens annoying and unusable, they do have the 17.1" widescreen IdeaPad Y710 going for $1500 after rebate. But if you want a really loaded edition with BluRay reader, Extreme processor (Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X9000 2.8GHz), and such, you can get oen for $2800AR. You also get 500gb hard disk, 4gb memory, and ATI Radeon HD2600 among other features at this high price.

By the way, the 14.1" widescreen Ideapad Y410 that we mentioned earlier, going for $500 after mail-in rebate is out of stock. So be sure to bookmark or subscribe to this blog to get notified of new and exciting specials. We are syndicating a full-text feed, so you can read all about it using your favorite online or desktop news readers! So subscribe now :)

A new week, and new laptop ads in the Best Buy Sunday paper! As always we start with the lowest prices and move on up up and away! Remember, Best Buy hates rebates, what you see is what you pay!

Laptops under $600
We start with a nice deal at $400, the Compaq Presario C762nr, which as the name suggests, uses an Intel pentium dual core processor. This is a great laptop for general purpose use considering the price. It has 1gb memory, 160gb hard disk, dvd burner (dual layer), 15.4" widescreen display, and Vista SP1. Limit one per household. If you are lucky enough to find one in stock, congratulations! But don't let that stop you from trying or asking or checking!

Next step up at $550, we find a clearance laptop, the Gateway M1625 which features 2gb of memory and 250gb hard disk drive. Other features include an AMD Turion 64 X2 DC processor, 15.4" ultrabright widescreen display fueled by the ATI Radeon X1270 graphics system, dvd burner with labelflash, built-in webcam, and Vista SP1. They also have a Dell E198WFP going for $180 with 1440x900 resolution, 5ms response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, DVI-D wiht HDCP and VGA inputs (argggg @ silly HDCP), and such. Cutesy colorful Microsoft mice running software that might steal your soul are offered at $25. This is the Microsoft Optical Notebook Mouse 3000 going for $30, base model BX3-000xx. The actual number depends on the color, such as milk chocolate brown (don't drink it), dragon fruit pink (don't eat it), aloe green (don't put it on your skin), winter blue (it's not chewing gum), and pomegranate red.

Portable Storage
External hard disks are all the rage, but if you want an internal disk that is environmentally friendly, the Green Power drives by Western Digital are on sale, starting with the 1 terrabyte WD10000CSRTL for $170 (yes, for one terrabyte) and the 500gb Western Digital WD5000CSRTL for $90. Less fancy but more portable are the smaller and colorful 2.5" USB 2.0 drives from SimpleTech. For $130 you can get the 320gb FS-U25/320H and for $80 you can get the 160gb FS-U2S/160BB. Laptop online weekend specials

The weekend is here and the 4th of July weekend is just around the corner. The tax rebates are dancing in the bank, and the economic slowness may encourage some retailers to offer better deals in order to entice more spending and increase sales. So what do we have this weekend among the online laptop retailers?

Small Business Laptops
For one thing, we have on-going Dell Small Business Deals featuring the all-new 2008 model Vostro 1510, and the Latitude D630.

More on the business world, HP has a whole line of laptops with built-in broadband. The specials are good until June 30, 2008, so be sure to bookmark and revisit this post if you are interested! Some of the models included in this promotion are the HP Compaq 8510p, 6510p, 6710b, 6515b, and 2710p. Note the "p" and "b" difference. Oh who was the smart guy at HP Compaq who chose model names that are similar in pronounciation? And speaking of broadband, they are available in Verizon, AT&T and Sprint flavors. Yum?

General Purpose Laptops
The Tigers are on the attack, and they are offering the Acer Aspire 5315-2713 for $500. This is a general purpose laptop and it is powered by the Intel Celeron Dual-Core T1400 1.73GHz processor. Tigerdirect and Dell Laptop specials

Shopping time! We have a new set of online temptations from Tigerdirect, CompUSA and Dell!

We start with Tigerdirect which is offering the Toshiba Satellite L355-S7811 going for $650, and without rebates! This has a 17" widescreen display, which makes it an interesting option for desktop-replacement and multimedia fans. The rest of the specs include an Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2370 1.73GHz processor, 2GB DDR2 memory, 200GB hard disk, dvd burner, webcam, and wireless (b/g), along of course with the lovely Vista Premium. Not a bad price for a 17" Toshiba! Check it out!

If you want to use your face as your password, then you might have even more reasons to take a look at the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 laptop, going for $600 after a $50 rebate. This at CompUSA, which of course TigerDirect purchased a few months ago. But CompUSA has been relaunched and continues to tick online and in a handful of brick and mortar stores that survived the original CompUSA closures. Anyway, back to the Y510 specs, it has an Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2370 1.73GHz processor, 2GB DDR2 memory, 160GB disk, dvd burner, 15.4" widescreen display, wireless, webcam, and of course the dreaded loved Vista Home Premium.

Now something something for the Sony fans! The Sony VAIO VGN-CR309E/RC Notebook PC going for $850 at and of course no rebates. The processor is the Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2330 1.60GHz. Other specs include 2GB DDR2 memory, 200GB hard disk drive, dvd burner, wireless (a/b/g/n), webcam, and Vista Premium. Oh and we forgot to mention, it has a 14.1" widescreen display, making it a good choice for the more mobile crowd!

But a 14.1" widescreen laptop is nowhere near the Asus Eee PC 2G Surf, which is powered by the Intel Mobile CPU, and has 802.11b/g Wireless, along with a decent 512MB DDR2, 2GB SSD (solid state disk) and a 7" WVGA display. The operating system is Linux and the EeePC in the special is a Sky Blue color. The price you ask? Three hundred dollars! Oh this is so cute!

Next for the Dell fan club, we have a special offer that lets you save $225 on Inspiron™ laptop purchases over $999 (before tax, fees, shipping & handling), plus you get FREE Standard Shipping! This special promotion includes the 14" Inspiron 1420, 15.4" Inspiron 1525, and 17" Inspiron 1720. Viva Dell!

Laptop deals at Circuit City for Father's Day!

Father's Day is just around the corner, and the Circuit Geeks have loaded up the temptations plate, also known as the weekly circular ad. So, let us take a look at what they have!

Featured on the back-page of the circular is the HP dv2810us going for $700 after a $50 MIR (mail-in rebate). This is a mobile versatile laptop thanks to its 14.1" widescreen display. The processor is no slouch, it's an AMD Turion 64 X2 DC TL-60, with 3gb memory, 250gb hard disk, dvd burner with ligthscribe, webcam, bluetooth, and Vista SP1.

But the lowest price belongs to the Toshiba A205-S5831, which goes for $480 after a $120 mail-in rebate. This is a closeout with no rainchecks, but if you can find it, then it's a nice deal we think. The processor is an Intel Pentium dual core T2370, and it has a 15.4" widescreen display, 1gb of memory, 160gb hard disk, dvd burner, wireless (b/g), and Vista SP1.

To see all the Circuit City weekly specials and local availability, see below:

Circuit City Weekly Ad 468x60

Gateway has your ...gateway to laptop fun with the Gateway M1624 model, which goes for $600 and that is without rebates. This is your typical loaded laptop at this price range with a 15.4" widescreen display, AMD Turion TL-60 processor, 2gb memory, 250gb hard disk, dvd burner with labelflash, wireless and Vista SP1.

Similar specs but the magic of Sony? Then how about the Sony Vaio VGN-NR-360-ES going for $680 and of course no rebates since Sony dislikes rebates as they tend to "cheapen" their perceived brand prestige - or something like that. The processor is an Intel Pentium dual core T2370, with 2gb memory, 250gb hard disk, 15.4" widescreen display, dvd burner, wireless and Vista SP1.

Moving on up in price, at $750 after a $50 MIR, we find the HP Pavilion dv6833us, an exclusive Circuit City model. This has a 15.4" widescreen display, Centrino dual core processor, 3gb memory, 250gb hard disk, dvd burner with ligthscribe, wireless including wireless-N, webcam, and Vista SP1.

The next notebook is also from HP, the Pavilion dv6871us going for $880 after a $50 MIR. This laptop has a 15.4" widescreen display, 3gb memory, 320gb hard disk, NVidia GeForce 8400M GS with 256MB dedicated video memory, wireless (a/b/g/N), dvd burner, webcam, and Vista SP1 of course. The processor? A Centrino!

Next we have a 17" widescreen laptop, the Toshiba Satellite P305-S8825 for $950 without rebates. This has a trendy Fusion finish, but the finish doesn't help with the processing. What helps with the processing is a Centrino processor, ATI HD3400 GS dedicated video memory (256MB), 3gb memory, 320gb hard disk, wireless (a/b/g/N), dvd burner, webcam, and Vista SP1.

Last but certainly not least is the Toshiba Satellite U405-S2833 going for $1050. Why the price? For one thing, a 13.3" TruBrite widescreen and a 9-cell LiIon battery. This means a smaller more mobile laptop with longer battery life, great if you are not always near a socket or carry around AC adapters. This model by the way is a Circuit City exclusive model, or so the ad claims. Other specs include a Centrino processor, 3gb memory, 250gb hard disk, dvd burner with labelflash, fingerprint reader, wireless (a/b/g/N), and Vista SP1.

Computer Accessories
External monitors can be handy when you are docked, such as the 19" LG widescreen LCD model W1952TOTF going for just $200. This is LG brand, not a generic brand. If you prefer a 22" model, the W2252TQTF goes for $270.

Meanwhile, the Logitech LX5 cordless optical mouse includes side-to-side scrolling and battery indicator light is going for just $10 but only after two $10 mail-in rebates. Good for rebate experts. If you are not a rebate expert, spare yourself the frustrations :)

If you are a sucker for Kenneth Cole Reaction, their 17" portfolio laptop case goes for $40 without rebates.

Sandisk USB memory sticks are on sale as well, going for $10 for 1gb, $17 for 2gb, $25 for 4gb, and $40 for 8gb.

Western Digital's MyPassport Essential 2.5" portable USB2.0 hard disks start at $80 with the WDME1600TN, and $100 for WDME2500TN. If portability mattters...

Maxtor has a six-pack of external hard disks, with the one terrabyte model going for $230. These and a lot more at Circuit City!

More Laptop specials at Office Depot for Father's Day!

We have already posted Part One of the Office Depot Laptop specials, but there are so much good stuff that we had to split the post in two pieces. Part One includes the Gateway T6321 $500AR special and the HP TX1499us touch-screen laptop specials.

And now to the exciting conclusion! We will present the laptops starting with the lowest price first, and do note that mail-in rebates may be required to get the lowest price advertised. Pay attention to each paragraph for more details! For all the specials, be sure to check the Computers, printers, peripherals from Office Depot.

Laptops under $700
We start at $600 after $125 MIR with the Toshiba L355D-S7809, which is powered by the AMD Turion TL-60 dual core processor. This also features 2gb memory, 250gb hard disk, dvd burner with labelflash, wireless, built-in webcam, and Vista SP1. Its special appeal? A nice big 17" widescreen display and a proper numeric keypad! Yum!

Also at $600 but after $175 in MIR (mail-in rebates) is the HP Pavilion DV6810US, which features a 15.4" widescreen display, 3gb of memory (nice!), 160gb hard disk, dvd burner with ligthscribe, wireless and bluetooth too, and Vista SP1 which indicates it is a newer model! Not a bad deal!

At $700 after $100 in mail-in rebates we find another 17" widescreen laptop, this time from HP. The Pavilion DV9810US also has 3gb memory, 160gb hard disk, dvd burner with lightscribe, wireless, built-in webcam, and Vista SP1. The processor itself is the popular AMD Turion TL-60.

Laptops over $700
At $750 and after a $50 MIR, we find the lovely Toshiba M305-S4822. This Satellite can orbit around your household with a 14.1" TruBrite widescreen display, making it a good trade-off of power and mobility. The processor is a Centrino Core 2 Duo T5550, with 3gb of memory, 250gb hard disk, dvd burner with labelflash, wireless of course, built-in webcam, and Vista SP1. Yum! Do note that special order may be required in some locations!

And now let's get creative! Or faux-creative, whatever you like :) With the help of the HP Pavilion DV2800t Artist Edition which includes a matching messenger bag. The processor is a Core 2 Duo T5750, with 2gb memory, 120gb hard disk, dvd burner, wireless (a/b/g/n), Bluetooth, built-in webcam and Vista SP1. And to make it artist friendly, the 14.1" widescreen display gives it more mobility and such. The price is $800 and no rebates!

Also at $800 but after a $50 MIR we find the HP DV2840se which also has a 14.1" widescreen display. And here you will find 4gb of memory (yes, four gigs), along with 250gb hard disk, dvd burner with lightscribe, wireless, bluetooth, webcam, and 64-bit Vista SP1. This is a special edition and does have a nice (creative) design on the cover. The processor? AMD Turion TL-60!

Next up at $850 after $100 in mail in rebates we find the HP dv9820us. This Pavilion has a 17" widescreen, and 64-bit Vista SP1. More bits to crash and bluescreen :) Other features include 4gb memory, 250gb hard disk, dvd burner with lightscribe, wireless, webcam, and much more!

Last but not least in this HP/Toshiba duopoly edition, we find the Toshiba A305-S6841 for $1000 but no rebates! Woohoo! What does it have to juistify four figures you ask? Good question! Perhaps it is the 9-cell battery or the ATI HD3470 256MB video card or the Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 processor? Other features include 3gb of ddr2 memory, 400gb hard disk, dvd burner with labelflash, finger-print reader, wireless (a/b/g/n), webcam and of course Vista SP1.

And this concludes our marathon Office Depot round-up! For all the specials, be sure to check the Office Depot Technology site.

Hot Office Depot Laptop Specials for Father's Day!

This week's Office Depot circular ad (June 8 to 14, 2008) is loaded with laptop deals, gearing up for the Father's Day shopping sprees around the country. If you needed an excuse to buy high tech gear, Father's Day and the Tax Rebate Checks are a good reason! So, let's go through the specials and see what's hot or not!

Front Page Laptop Deal: The Red Gateway T-6321
A very tempting Gateway laptop makes the front page for the price of $500. But Office Depot, unlike Office Max and Best Buy, is a friend of mail-in rebates, and if you want to get all these great deals, you have to submit, track and follow-through on all the rebates. It is a must!

So, the big temptation is the Gateway Model T-6321 going for $500 after a mail-in rebate of $125. The in-store price is $625 plus tax. So what's the big deal you ask? Sure, we've seen tons of $500 laptops, what's so special about this red laptop? Well, pay close attention! It has a 14.1" widescreen display, and laptops of this screen size rarely drop this much in price. But it's not an entry-level machine either! It has an Intel Pentium dual core T2370 processor, 3gb of DDR2 memory, 160gb hard disk, dvd burner with labelflash, built-in webcam, wireless, and Vista SP1. This is an Office Depot exclusive model. The Vista SP1 tells us that this is a new(er) model, since older laptops were bundled with th original Vista Premium, not the Service Crap One. Oops, we meant Service Pack One! So don't wait, grab the Gateway T6321, assuming of course you can find it in-store at your local ODP store. Because considering the price and features, it may be gone by now. But it never hurts to check online or at your local store. You may win the laptop lottery! By the way, no rainchecks on this one!

The other big front page special is the HP Pavilion TX1499us, a touchscreen notebook with a 12.1" brightview touch-screen display. The price is $700 after two mail-in rebates totalling $100. In-store price is $800. Now if you don't like touchscreen laptops, jump over to the next one. But if you do, you may have won the touchscreen laptop lottery :)

Office Depot, IncGo Green!

The TX1499us has an AMD Turion dual core 64 X2 TL-60 processor, 2gb of memory, 160gb of hard disk, dvd burner with lightscribe, built-in fingerprint reader and webcam, wireless, and Vista Premium. And because of the touch-screen, it can capture handwritten notes and even attempts to convert it to computer text. As you can expect, no rainchecks! and limited quantities, etc, etc. But it never hurts to check!

A bargain desktop in a sea of Laptops
If you want to have a dirty cheap desktop for general purchase work, eg email, browsing, etc, or if you want to give it as a gift to a beginner in computing (if such a person still exists), then perhaps the eMachines Tower T3646 can be that computer for $250 after a $50 mail-in rebate. This does not include a monitor, but you can pick one from the on-sale monitors mentioned below, or any other one, new or used and such. This desktop is powered by the AMD Sempron™ LE1250 Single-Core Processor, and has 1gb of memory, 160gb of hard disk, dual layer dvd burner, and Vista Basic SP1. Not bad for a $250AR desktop. Remember, this is without a monitor!

Computer Accessories
No computer is complete without a boatload of accessories. At least that's what the computer gearheads will have you believe. So, here we go, we start with the LCD monitors, which are plenty and affordable in this week's edition of the ODP flyer. ODP by the way is shortcut for Office Depot.

You can have the 19" Envision 242TFHD LCD widescreen for just $150 after a $50 mail-in rebate. That is a nice price, and you can use it as a backup, or laptop docking monitor, or even hook up an older computer to it and create your own screensaver or digital picture frame.

Also at 19", you can have the Samsung 953bw for just $200, and no rebates at all. This is the Samsung brand after all! If you prefer a 20" display, then the Samsung 2032NW can be yours for $230, also no rebates. Its main specs include 5ms response time, 3000:1 CR, and 1680 x 1080 max resolution. Yes it is a widescreen LCD! Or perhaps you can jump to the Syncmaster 2253BW for $300, and no rebates. This lovely LCD has a 5ms response time as well.

External hard disk drives are all the rage these days, and plenty of them are advertised in the circular, starting with the Seagate® FreeAgent™ 750GB External Hard Drive for $150, and no rebates whatsoever! That's almost 200,000 mp3 songs! Move over Walkman and iPod :)

IF you want to spend about half, but get a much smaller disk size, you can get the Maxtor® 160GB OneTouch™ 4 Mini External Portable Hard Drive for $80. If you want to pay as little as possible, that's a good choice, but if you are the type that counts bang for the buck, the more gigabytes you buy, the better the ratio will be. Of course you also have to consider that the bigger the disks, the bigger the risks if something goes wrong to it!

Office Depot, Inc

USB storage, aka usb flash sticks, are a versatile backup or primary storage for whatever you are doing. You can never have too many of these, just in case! So with that in mind you can get a 4gb red Sandisk Cruzer Gator for $25, no rebates. For more storage, an 8gb Ativa (home brand of ODP) sets you off by $40, at $5 per gigabyte which seems to be a good price these days for storage at brick and mortar. And if you just want a 1gb model, then you can get the Ativa model for just $8. Not bad either! Almost dispoable prices even :)

And now something for fans of HDTV, and a very good price for such a big Father's Day gift: The AOC L32W761 HDTV LCD for just $530, and there are no rebates here! This is a 32" HDTV, yes thirty-two inch, not a typo. It has 1360 x 768 resolution, 1500:1 contrast ratio, and almost 180-degrees viewing angle. Not bad for the price! But as with all high ticket items, if you are not familiar with the product or brand, be sure to do some internet searches and look for reviews and other people's first hand experience!

And something really cheap after rebate, an upconverting dvd player from Memorex, the Memorex MVD2045 for just $10 after a $40 mail-in rebate. Yes, just ten bucks after rebate! For that very price, you can also get a 1gb Memorex mp3 player, after a $30 mail-in rebate. So if you are a rebate specialist, you can get these two goodies for just $20 plus tax on the whole amount, assuming of course you do all your rebate homework!

And now to Dell, the Inspiron 1420 is geared towards mobile users with its 14.1" widescreen display. That is nice because the price is $700 and no rebates! Dell does not like rebates, and people who do not like rebates, like Dell for that :) This is a powerful laptop with 3gb memory, 250gb hard disk, and super multi format dvd burner. The processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo T5550, and you also get wireless, built-in webcam, your choice of colors (black, blue, red, pink) and Vista Premium.

And a little something-something for fans of big screen laptops! Get ready, set go! The HP Pavilion dv9810us can be yours for $750 after a $50 Easy Rebate. But there's more, you also receive a $50 Staples Gift Card by mail, dropping your effective price after rebate and gift card to $700. Not bad at all! Now what kind of pig are you getting in this poke?

Well there's no lipstick needed, this is a power-pig :) An AMD Turion 64 X2 DC TL-60 processor, 3gb of memory, 160gb hard disk, super multi format dvd burner, built-in webcam, and Vista SP1. And as we mentioned earlier, a 17" widescreen display, ideal for multimedia users. This is while supplies last so don't sleep on it!

Computer Accessories

But if you prefer brand names, the Samsung 2032NW can be yours for $220 after a $30 Easy Rebate. This is a 20" widescreen LCD with resolution up to 1680x1050. Nice eh?

Madonna sings about the music and the people, and the 4gb Philips video mp3 player can deliver both for just $60 and no rebates!

Memories! 1gb of PNY DDR PC3200 desktop memory goes for $60. Good? Bad? Indifferent? For those who need flash drives, a 4gb Sandisk Cruzer is $25, an 8gb is $40 ($5 per gigabyte), and a 2gb is $18. Clearly the more you buy, the more you save per gigabyte.

More storage! A 320gb Western Digital My Passport portasble hard disk drive goes for $140, but if you want to spend less, you can get a 160gb version for $90. As you can see, the higher the capacity the bigger the savings per gigabyte, but if you need the lowest price possible, then the 160gb version is not that bad.

The computers are heating up too in the summer, and now it's a good time to get a Targus (or other brand) notebook fan/cooler/chiller. The Targus one is on sale for $15. You can also use these on your cable box or DVR, if you have one of those that heat up and start mis-behaving.

If your computer is mis-behaving and you are worried that it might be security related, the Staples circular ad talks of a free PC Security check in-store by their EasyTech geek squad. The free check includes system and risk analysis, virus and spyware checks, and a hard drive integrity check. Check local store or website for more details.

Four HP laptops, no rebates, at Office Max!

As always, no rebates at Office Max, so what the sticker price says, is what you pay, plus of course any applicable sales tax! So let's dig into the Sunday paper, or their online circular ad and see what's up!

There is no bargain laptop this week, the lowest priced advertised notebook goes for $650, and that honor belongs to the HP Pavilion dv6810us. This is a loaded laptop however, which explains the price. Apart from the expected 15.4" widescreen display, you get an AMD Turion 64 X2 DC TL-60 processor, 3gb of memory (nice!), 160gb hard disk drive, dvd burner with lightscribe, built-in memory card reader, wireless (b/g) but also Bluetooth, and of coruse Vista SP1.

Yes, all four laptops this week at Hewlett Packards, and we continue at $730 with the dv2810us, which is a more mobile notebook with a 14.1" widescreen display. The 14.1" laptops cost more, but that doesn't mean they don't have solid feautures. This puppy has an AMD Turion 64 X2 DC TL-60 processor, 3gb memory, 250gb hard disk, dvd burner with lightscribe, built-in memory card reader, wireless and bluetooth, built-in webcam, and Vista SP1. The ad mentions that it weighs a pound (1 lb) less than the mythical typical 15.4" widescreen laptop. One pound they say.

No Rebates 468x60

At $750, we find the dv 6830us, with a 15.4" widescreen. This notebook is spoiled by the Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 processor, 3gb of memory, 250gb hard disk, dvd burner with lightscribe, wireless and bluetooth, built-in webcam and memory card reader, and of course Vista Premium. Some stores may require a special order, in other cases, they may have it available in-store and ready to go, just waiting for you like an 80s cheesy song ;-)

Last but certainly not least, we find the Pavilion dv9812us, with a 17" widescreen for fans of bigger screens and multimedia and desktop replacement functionality in their laptops. Apart from that, you get a 10-key numeric pad, so it feels liek a "real keyboard", more or less. Also an AMD Turion 64 X2 DC TL-60 processor, 3gb ddr2 memory, 250gb hard disk, dvd burner with lightscribe, alphabet soup wireless (a,b,g,N), built-in webcam and memory card reader, and of course Vista Premium. Not bad for the price!

Now let's accessorize!
SwissGear ish aving a major sale, 50% off even, of the SwissGear Patriot and Potomac wheeled laptop case, the Saturn Messenger bag, and such.

If you are looking for an extra monitor to dcck your laptop, the 22" HP widescreen display with 1680x1050 resolution goes for $300 and as always no rebates! Slightly smaller at $270 is the Samsung 2253LW with 2ms response time, 8000:! dynamic contrast ratio, and 1000:1 contrast ratio, along with HDCP crapola.

If you want smaller monitors, a 20" Sceptre goes for $180 while a 22" version goes for $230. But if you want a really big widescreen LCD display, the Soyo DYLM26E6 goes for $400. Not bad considering that LCD HDTVs go for $500 in this price range. This has a 1200:1 contrast ratio. Check the manufacturer or Office Max website for more details on this and the other models.

Store your stuff, make backups, etc, etc. The external portable hard disk are all the rage nowadays with increased versatility and functionality, and available in multiple colors and shapes. Prices start at $80 for a 160gb drive (2gb per dollar), and go all the way to $200 for a 1 terrabyte (1 TB) Western Digital My Book (5gb per dollar). There's also a 500gb SimleTech for just $110, along with many more.

For extra storage, 100-packs of TDK DVD-R and DVD+R blank dvds are on sale for $25, bringing the price to 25c per blank dvd. And where do you store them? How about Office Max branded slim-line jewel cases, on sale for $33 for two 100-packs. So you pay $33 for 200 slim-line jewel cases, which comes out to 16.5 cents per empty slim-line jewel case. Not a bad price, but not the best either.

With so many HP models in this week's ad, you might also be interested in the HP Quick Dock on sale at the moment for $100. No model name is mentioned. You can also get an HP 90W AC adapter for $50, also on sale.
